Cash on Delivery is still the most popular way to pay for online orders in the UAE, and for good reason. You do not hand over card details to a shop you have never bought from, and you do not pay until the parcel is physically in your hands.
But there is a lot of confusion about how it actually works, and a lot of people have been caught out. This guide explains the process properly, and tells you what to check before you order anywhere.
How Cash on Delivery Actually Works
The sequence is the same at most UAE stores:
- You place the order online. No card details are needed.
- The store contacts you — usually on WhatsApp or by phone — to confirm the order and the address.
- Once confirmed, the order is dispatched to a courier.
- The courier delivers it and collects the payment at your door.
That confirmation step in the middle is the part most people do not expect, and it causes more confusion than anything else.
Why Stores Call to Confirm a COD Order
Because anyone can type an address into a form without meaning it.
With card payment, the store already has the money. With COD, the store pays for the product and the courier before seeing a single dirham. If nobody answers the door, the store loses the delivery cost both ways.
So most UAE stores confirm first. If you do not answer, your order sits and waits — which is why people sometimes think an order has been ignored when it has not.
The practical takeaway: answer the confirmation message. An unconfirmed COD order is the single most common reason a delivery is delayed.
What to Check Before You Order Anywhere
Most COD problems come down to the same few things. These are worth checking on any UAE store, including this one.
Is the total price actually the total?
Some stores advertise a low price and add delivery at checkout. Others add a "COD handling fee" at the door, which is the worst version because you only find out when the courier is standing there.

Is there a real contact address?
A store with no email address, no contact page and no policies is a store you cannot chase if something goes wrong. Look for a contact page with a genuine email, and read the refund policy before you order rather than after.
What happens if the item is wrong or damaged?
This is the question worth asking before you buy. Find out whether the store offers returns, replacements, or nothing at all, and what the time limit is.
Be aware that most UAE dropshipping stores — including this one — offer replacement rather than return, because the stock sits in a fulfilment warehouse rather than a local shop. That is normal, but you should know it before ordering, not afterwards.
Does the product page tell you what is NOT included?
This is the single biggest cause of disappointment in COD orders, and it has nothing to do with payment.
A charger with no wall adapter. A diffuser with no oil. A toy with no batteries. A bubble gun with no solution. None of those are faults — but if the listing does not say so, you find out when the box is open and you have already paid.
Good listings say what is in the box and what is not. If a page does not tell you, ask before ordering.
Can You Open the Box Before Paying?
Usually no, and this surprises people.
Most UAE couriers deliver COD orders on a pay-first basis. The courier is a delivery driver, not a shop assistant — they are not authorised to process a refusal after the packaging is opened, and they have other deliveries waiting.
What you can do is inspect the outside of the parcel for obvious crushing or water damage before accepting it. If the box is visibly destroyed, refuse the delivery and contact the store straight away.
What If Something Is Wrong After You Open It?
Contact the store immediately — the same day if possible. Most replacement windows are short, and a claim made two weeks later is much harder to resolve.
Send:
- Your order number
- Clear photos of the item and the damage
- A photo of the packaging if it arrived damaged
- Your phone number

Is COD Safer Than Paying by Card?
They protect you against different things, and it is worth understanding which.
COD protects you against the store taking your money and never shipping anything, and against your card details being stored by a site you do not trust.
Card payment protects you against receiving something that is not as described — because you can raise a chargeback through your bank. With COD, once you have handed over cash, your only route is the store itself.
So COD is genuinely safer for the payment, and weaker for the dispute. That is why the quality of the store — its policies, its contact details, whether its product pages are honest — matters more with COD, not less.
Red Flags Worth Walking Away From
- No contact email anywhere on the site. Not a chat widget — an actual address.
- No refund or shipping policy, or policies that are clearly copied from another country and mention laws that do not apply here.
- Prices far below everything else. An AED 90 product listed at AED 15 is either not the product in the photograph, or the delivery fee is where the money is made.
- Miracle claims. Products that whiten skin, regrow hair, burn fat from one area, or cure conditions. None of these are true, and a store willing to print them is willing to print other things.
- Stock photos with another shop's watermark, or images that clearly show a different product.
How Long Should Delivery Take?
Across the UAE, most stores dispatch within one to two business days and delivery takes one to three business days to the major cities. Remote areas take longer.
Add a day or two around Fridays, public holidays and Ramadan. If you are ordering for a specific date — a birthday, a gift, a trip — order a week ahead rather than relying on the fastest case.

The Short Version
Cash on Delivery is safe, and it remains the sensible default for buying from a store you have not used before. It removes the biggest risk — paying money to someone who never sends anything.
What it does not remove is the need to check who you are buying from. Read the policies, look for a real contact address, and read the product page properly — particularly the part about what is in the box.
